1955 Oval window ragtop bug, Super survivor! Mint condition!

This story starts in Amsterdam…where it ends… unbelievable but this car, an august 1955 build Oval window bug in the color of stratos silver and bought with the extra option of the sunroof, called ragtop in VW land, was bought brand new in Amsterdam, Holland. And stayed there its entire life! My friend brought it back from a covered car park, last year, where it sat under a nice layer of dust. Amsterdamned! How could that be possible?
The exact history being buried forever with its two previous owners, but thanks God they left enough “souvenirs” with this car to prove its authenticity! The first being a little notebook, from when the car was new. A little book that was hand written with all prices and extra’s paid, here we can find the exchange for whitewall tires when new… the same tires are still on the car today! Wowh! A car on first tires! And then there is also a little period picture book. Pictures from the first “outings” of this magnificent car! On some of these pictures there is some small folding chairs, where the lady of the owner take a little time to rest and to pose for the pictures. These little folding chairs are still in the front trunk today! Imagine!
This cute little piece of history is ALL-original. First paint, first rubber, never welded, rock solid, original mechanics, matching numbers, original upholstery, all original, nothing changed, hardly touched, minimal used and still sitting on its first set of tires, waiting for you! Everything is in very good condition and in working order. Brakes might need a rebuild because of sitting its time in dark and dust but that’s it. The engine runs more fine then a Swiss watch, we changed the exhaust, but left the original VW part in the front trunk, even its ”burned through”.
How much care the original owners paid to their new baby is also possible to see @ the interior. Plaid seat and door panel covers since new. Off course this was something “well-normal-to-do” in the fifty’s, but also here, we see another time best quality. We like them so much we left them on, the original upholstery is still underneath. And off course all well documented in the little notebook. The more then proud new owners spend nothing less than 175 Dutch guilders 3 days after purchase of the car for this, all in all a long wanted dream that came through.
The Stratos silver original paint is really extra ordinary, unbelievable exceptional, extremely greatly, excessive, outrageous unbelievable original condition, if this might be clear written these words! In our 25 years of Vintage Volkswagen experience (and handled several of the world’s finest) we never ever have seen something stratos silver comes close in regards of this originality fantastic shape of paint work. This gem is more beautiful than anybody ever can restore, because this is very close how the paint and its condition must have looked when this baby left the Wolfsburg factory. Why this car and how it survived will be more than likely a mystery forever. One thing for sure, the first owners must have got a very sensitive feeling with their “baby”. I would almost take the word “fanatic” or “obsessed” in my mouth. This gem was taken care for better then a child, en spend way more time in the first decades of its life under blankets and cloths as seeing daylight, pampered and cared by its cherished owners. A real “love story” easy to be continued by you!
Last but not least we can also tell this unbelievable sample of originality comes with its first registration certificate printed on the original linen, on September 13 of the year 1955, exactly 11 days after the purchase from their darling the proud owners got this registration. Needless to say the original registration plates do come along in this whole deal as well the whole story.
